Objective of the Department of Patents and Industrial Designs
The Department of Patent Law and Industrial Designs legally protects inventions, utility models and industrial designs by issuing the corresponding certificates, granting their owners the exclusive right of exploitation in the Republic of Guatemala for the periods established by law.
Functions Main
This department is responsible for receiving, analyzing and processing applications for protection of inventions and industrial creations, as well as carrying out the administrative and technical process necessary for granting patents and registrations, and providing technical and legal advice to users who require it.
The protection granted confers upon the holders the exclusive right of exploitation within the national territory for a certain period of time, in accordance with current legislation, promoting innovation, competitiveness and technological development of the country.
